The creators of Battlefield 6 are hoping that many players will return to the game when Season 2 launches this week. They also hope new players will try the game for the first time.
Even though Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of 2025, the number of people playing it has dropped a lot in recent months. At launch, more than 747,000 players were playing at the same time on Steam. Many fans said the game was a big improvement after the problems of Battlefield 2042, which had a difficult release.
When Battlefield 6 came out in October 2025, it received excellent reviews. Players said it felt like a “return to form,” meaning it reminded them of older, popular Battlefield games. However, after the first season ended, fewer players continued playing. On Steam, the game has now lost about 89% of its players since launch.
The development team, Battlefield Studios, knows about the drop in players.
According to a report shared online, one developer said the team is “biting their nails” while waiting for Season 2 to launch. This means they are feeling nervous and anxious. They are hoping that Season 2 will make players excited again.
What Is Coming in Season 2?
Season 2 will launch on February 17 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also add new content to the game’s free Battle Royale mode, Battlefield REDSEC.
New content includes:
A new multiplayer map called Contaminated, set at a German airbase in the mountains
The return of the famous Little Bird helicopter from Battlefield 3
New weapons
Special limited-time events
Originally, Season 2 was supposed to release earlier, but it was delayed. The developers said they needed more time to improve it based on player feedback. Because of the delay, many fans expected a lot of new content. However, some players were disappointed when they saw that only one new map would be available at launch, with another map coming a month later.
Many fans have compared Battlefield 6 to its biggest competitor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. While Battlefield 6 is adding two maps during Season 2, Black Ops 7 is adding nine multiplayer maps in its new season, including five brand-new ones.
Now, Battlefield Studios is waiting to see if Season 2 will bring players back. The next few weeks will be very important for the game’s future.
